Within Braemar and nearby are a number of running events throughout the year which will appeal to hill runners, trail runners and those wanting a fun experience:-

      • Run Balmoral (late April)  A host of races and distances for all ages in the iconic surroundings of Balmoral Castle and grounds including 5km, 10km, 15 mile trail race and children’s distances.
      • Deeside Duathlon (early May). Starting in Braemar and finishing in Aberdeen. A bike/run/bike taking in the scenery of Royal Deeside
      • Lairig Ghru (late  June)  Classic 28 mile run on road, tracks and trails through the Lairig Ghru to Aviemore.
      • Mike Grant Memorial Races (mid July) Children’s races organised as part of the Braemar Junior Games
      • Creag Choinnich Hill Race  (17th June 2020) A short hill race, but packed with history. This is the oldest recorded hill race dating back to 1068 when King Canmore would use the race to select messengers!

    • Heart of the Park Trail Run (TBC) A popular 12km trail run around Braemar which takes in a variety of natural obstacles including river crossings, marsh, forest and the infamous Coire Feragie bogs…….
    • Ballater 10 (late July) 10 mile road race on roads around Ballater.
    • Glenshee9 Hill race (Saturday 1st August 2020)   Is this Scotland’s hardest hill race? Covering 21miles, 6000feet of ascent and 9 Munro’s around the Glenshee Ski Centre. The 2018 results are available here

  • Morrone Hill race (early Sept) A race to the cairns on Morrone during the Braemar Gathering. The highlight is the return into the Games arena in front of a cheering crowd of more than 10,000
  • Braemarathon (mid September)  Half marathon from the village to the Linn o’ Dee and back on road.
  • Morvern Hill race (late Sept) Hill race near Ballater
  • Grampian Mountain Challenge (mid Nov) Run GMC Two day mountain marathon held every other year in Upper Deeside
